Professional Family Photographer for Fun Portraits   by Bree Holmes

When it comes to family portraits, people just assume a formal setting with family members in almost matching color coded outfits and some with forced smile on their faces. This is what a lot of family have as displays on their living room or mantel piece with the family members in static pose. Is this what you want for a Family Photo or would you want something that is not as static and more fun to watch?

If you want to have your pictures taken as a family then find and do something fun but this does not mean that you have to fake it. The best way to make it all look natural is to do an activity that most if not all of the members love or like. You all can go on a picnic, have barbecue, go to the local amusement park whatever tickles that family’s fancy. The background will sure look a lot better than just a studio taken picture with a boring backdrop. Family photographer Austin will know the best way to take your photos even when you go on location shoots and the result would be fun and natural smile for everyone.

The idea here is to not force any reaction and make all your photos look stiff. So talk it over with your photographer about places where you can go for the photo shoot, the best time to do it which is convenient for everybody and of course what day is best to have a family picture. These data are important so that nobody is going to rush somewhere for a next scheduled appointment or the possibility of someone being late and making everyone wait because that certain someone had to do something else first. Not starting the shoot right may ruin it for everyone else so an advance planning for this even is essential.

Outfits need not match unless you really all want to. For a more natural and appealing effect, choose just three colors and have everyone choose their colors among the three or combine the three in one outfit if you all choose to do so. During the photo session, make sure everyone is comfortable and not as camera conscious, talk about things that your family finds really interesting for everybody else to get more comfortable and used to the camera. Tell a story, one that you think they will all enjoy or else have the family clown or story teller do the entertaining.

Family photographer Austin will know some other great suggestion so be sure that you all put your heads together to make sure that this photo session does not go to waste.

''We are the Mods'': A Transnational History of a Youth Subculture

”We are the Mods”: A Transnational History of a Youth Subculture

$23.38

The Mod youth culture began in the postwar era as a way for young people to reconfigure modernity after the chaos of World War II. Through archival research, oral history interviews, and participant observation, this book traces Mod’s geographic origins from dimly lit clubs of London’s Soho, to contemporary, country-specific expressions today. By specifically examining the U.S., Germany, and Japan, alongside the U.K., _We are the Mods_ shows how this subculture played out in countries that both lost and won the War. Each chapter, which unfolds chronologically, begins with a contemporary portrait of the Mod scene in a particular country, followed by an overview stretching back to the nineteenth-century and a section that describes Mod’s initial impact there during the 1960s. This examination of the adoption and adaptation of Mod style across geographic space also maps its various interpretations over time: from the early 1960s to the present. In sum, this study emphasizes Mod’s transnationalism, which is evident in the culture’s fashion, music, iconography, and gender aesthetics.

1.5 generation.

$49.99

This thesis examines the term “1.5 generation” Asian Americans and their transformation stages. My thesis work is inspired by my personal experiences as well as the experiences, realizations, and imagination of others. A 1.5 generation Asian American’s awareness of his or her identity differs by the stages (teenage years; university years; professional life) of their transformation. My thesis is the story of my personal journey to acquiring my new identity while simultaneously educating those around me as to who I had now become: a member of the 1.5 generation Asian American community.;My works are influenced by Bill Viola, Namjun Paik, Valerie Soe, and Tony Cokes. The main medium in the series 1.5 is digitized video art published online. This 1.5 generation concept could not be explained in one piece unless I made an entire documentary movie with full narration. The final realization of this concept required my work to be broken down into several constituent subjects. Making a series out of my work helped me to sketch out the concept of who I was and who I had now become. The transformation stages gave me more freedom to express the main theme.;I consider this work a portrait of my journey through cultural exploration. If I continue working on this project, I am confident additional stages of cultural transformation for me, as well as other 1.5 generation Asian Americans, lie ahead. People can experience discrimination if they do not try to find their self-worth, but they will experience freedom if they discover their true identity.

 112* Ambulance Amsterdam

112* Ambulance Amsterdam

$27.19

112* Ambulance Amsterdam is a book about the emergency service in Amsterdam. Poelstra was able to closely follow the paramedics” daily work on the scene. This portrait of a service which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2008 is superbly photographed and has been put together with a delicate sense of respect for the clients. Nevertheless, it is a hard-hitting book, as the subject matter is hardly subtle. But it is also a true ode to the people on the ambulances and the background staff who put in tireless efforts to help the people who call on their services.

28: Stories of AIDS in Africa

$11.99

“This is a formidable book of record…from the tiny virus, via twenty-eight individual human stories, to an entire continent. The stories will tear you apart before putting you back together, fully armed and ready to go to war with a virus more dangerous than any WMD.”—Bono“Magnificent, inspiring, informative. Nolen opens the essential door to the brave, suffering, human reality of the African AIDS crisis.”—John le CarréFor the past six years, Stephanie Nolen has traced AIDS across Africa, and 28 is the result: an unprecedented, uniquely human portrait of the continent in crisis. Poe Ballantine’s second collection of personal essays follows, and expands on, his acclaimed Things I Like About America. Ballantine’s world is a crazy quilt of odd jobs, eccentric characters, boarding houses, buses, and beer, rendered in the author’s by turns absurd and poignant voice. “The Irving” briskly details the author’s diabolic plan to punch John Irving in the nose after opening for him before an audience of 2,000 people at the prestigious Wordstock Festival. “Wide-Eyed in the Gaudy Shop” takes readers on a wild ride through Mexico as Ballantine meets and marries his wife Christina. “Blessed Meadows for Minor Poets” offers a devastating take on the author’s life as his years of struggle to secure a major contract for a short story collection end in catastrophe. The writer the Seattle Times called “part Huck Finn, part Hunter S. Thompson” brings a blistering wit and shrewd observation to this composite portrait of an unconventional life.

The star of the film Kandahar creates a moving memoir of life, childhood and friendship as her world collapses around her Nelofer Pazira was born into a privileged family living in Kabul. When she was six, the Russians invaded Afghanistan and her childhood ended. Her father, a respected doctor, was imprisoned along with family and friends. Their country became a police state and the centre of a bloody conflict between the Soviet army and the American-backed guerillas. Amid the blood and fear of war, Nelofer’s refuge from violence and anger was her friendship with Dyana. Together they shared their lives, their passion for poetry and the dangers of underground resistance. After a decade of war, Nelofer’s family escaped across the mountains to Pakistan and from there to Canada, where she continued her friendship with Dyana through letters. When her friend suddenly stopped writing, Nelofer felt bereft. Her return to Afghanistan under the Taliban and her desperate search for Dyana became the story of the internationally acclaimed film Kandahar. Her journey to discover Dyana’s tragedy led her finally to Russia, to the country that destroyed her life, where she found a nation imprisoned by its own history. Nuanced, affecting and stunningly written, A Bed of Red Flowers is a gripping portrait of ordinary life under occupation and an illuminating window onto the devastation of a country and the resilience of its people. For fear that the Communist government might find evidence that could be used against my father, my mother decides to burn everything. In utter anguish she sits on the floor in front of the stove. The tiny door of the chimney is open, and my motherrelentlessly feeds the beast of fire my father’s books, albums and papers. Book burning is a quiet ritual. The only sound is of the papers crackling and of my mother’s sighs. The cherry-red glow of the fire highlights the lines of tiredness beneath my mother’s eyes. I’ve never seen her so ex

A Biography of No Place: From Ethnic Borderland to Soviet Heartland

A Biography of No Place: From Ethnic Borderland to Soviet Heartland

$25

This is a biography of a borderland between Russia and Poland, a region where, in 1925, people identified as Poles, Germans, Jews, Ukrainians, and Russians lived side by side. Over the next three decades, this mosaic of cultures was modernized and homogenized out of existence by the ruling might of the Soviet Union, then Nazi Germany, and finally, Polish and Ukrainian nationalism. By the 1950s, this “no place” emerged as a Ukrainian heartland, and the fertile mix of peoples that defined the region was destroyed.Brown’s study is grounded in the life of the village and shtetl, in the personalities and small histories of everyday life in this area. In impressive detail, she documents how these regimes, bureaucratically and then violently, separated, named, and regimented this intricate community into distinct ethnic groups.Drawing on recently opened archives, ethnography, and oral interviews that were unavailable a decade ago, A Biography of No Place reveals Stalinist and Nazi history from the perspective of the remote borderlands, thus bringing the periphery to the center of history. Brown argues that repressive national policies grew not out of chauvinist or racist ideas, but the very instruments of modern governance – the census, map, and progressive social programs – first employed by Bolshevik reformers in the western borderlands. We are given, in short, an intimate portrait of the ethnic purification that has marked all of Europe, as well as a glimpse at the margins of twentieth century “progress.”Kate Brown is Assistant Professor of History at University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
